Stop Motion

Hello out there! I've been working in my studio NON STOP lately, and its been great, and sometimes I feel crazy, and sometimes calm. Its a whole range of emotions going on this school year. This is my 7th year of school, heres the thing: Undergrad took me 4.5 years, and my grad program (that I'm in right now) is a 3 year program, me being in the 3rd and final year. I can't help but feel this thesis show, which will be up in Portland in the beginning of May, is the end all be all of my school year (because it basically is), and so it has to be like the best thing I've ever made, seriously, EVER. So yeah, I feel tremendous pressure, to not only own up to this task, but to do so in this highly intellectual/research based way. Anyway I've recently come to the conclusion that I need to make a stop motion animation, I think this project would sum up all the ideas and practices I've researched throughout my time here. Here are some sets that I've been working on:

Way overdue post

It's been a while, and lets face it, grad school kind of sucks up my life: mentally, physically, emotionally, etc. But its summer and I'm feeling alright (mostly because I've been swimming 5 times in the past week.) These photos are from one of the last installations I did before summer break. I've been exploring and experimenting with comics as an installation form. I've also been creating characters through material objects and environments, this one specifically is based on my grandfather, who I didn't know well. Happy summer folks, More art on the way!

For folklore

Hey everyone, so I took a Native American folklore class this term, and it was SPECTACULAR. As a grad student I had to propose an extra project for the class. I really wanted to do some kind of comic that relayed some of the ideas talked about in my class. This class was focused on the modern times of native tribes, there was some historical reference (obviously needed) but the main focus was the different issues these tribes face today. I am taking a comics methodologies class in the spring (starting in 2 weeks!) and really want to extend this comic further and deeper. Due to time constraints (due dates) I couldn't cover everything I wanted to. But with this comics class it could become a larger project for me.
